What ceramic coating is
A ceramic coating is a liquid that bonds to your clear coat and cures into a thin, hard, clear layer. Once it cures, water beads and sheets off, road film and pollen have less to grab onto, and a wash that used to take an hour takes a lot less.
It is a coating, not a film. It is far thinner than paint protection film, so it will not stop a rock chip or a deep scratch. If chips are the worry, look at film, or do both: film on the front, coating over everything. The ceramic coating vs PPF guide puts the two side by side.
A coating also locks in whatever is in the paint when it goes on. That is why most coating jobs start with paint correction: swirls polished out first, then sealed under a clean finish.
We are System X Certified Installers. Every package includes the paint prep: a full paint correction, or a lighter paint enhancement on new vehicles. Then comes a System X Max G+ coating, rated 10 years, or Phantom, rated 15 years. The warranty stays in force with a yearly inspection. See warranty.

What to expect from a coating
A coating is worth it when you know what it does and what it does not.
What it does
- Deep, wet-looking gloss that holds up for years, not weeks
- Water beads and rolls off, so the car dries faster and spots less
- Bugs, pollen, sap and road film come off with less scrubbing
- A hard layer between the clear coat and bird droppings, so they wipe off before they etch
- No more waxing every few months
What it does not do
- Stop rock chips or deep scratches. That is what paint protection film is for
- Remove swirls or scratches already in the paint. Paint correction does that, before the coating
- Keep the car clean on its own. You still wash it, it just goes faster
- Fix a failing clear coat or a bad repaint

How a coating job goes
Most of the work happens before the coating comes out of the bottle.
Look at the paint
We check the paint in good light, point out swirls, scratches and chips, and tell you what it needs before you commit.
Wash and decontaminate
The car is washed and the paint is cleaned of bonded grime like iron fallout and tar, so the coating bonds to paint and not dirt.
Correct the paint
Swirls and haze are polished out as needed. Whatever is in the paint when the coating goes on stays under it.
Prep and coat
Panels are wiped clean of polishing oils, then the coating is applied and leveled panel by panel.
Cure and hand back
The coating sets before the car goes home. Most coating jobs take 2 to 5 days. It needs 24 hours before it can get wet, and reaches full cure in about 2 weeks. You leave with care instructions, also sent by email, sample care products and your System X warranty card.
From $1,200
New vehicles start at $1,200 with a paint enhancement. With a full paint correction, packages start at $1,500. We give you the final number after we see the car.
What sets the final price
- Vehicle size: a coupe and a full-size truck are different jobs
- New paint (enhancement) or paint that needs a full correction
- Max G+ (10 years) or Phantom (15 years)
Who it pays off for
Honest answer: not everyone. Here is who gets the most out of a coating.
Cars you keep for years
The longer you own it, the more washes and wax jobs a coating saves you, and the better the paint looks at trade-in.
New cars
New paint is the easiest to keep perfect. Most new cars still need a light polish first, because dealer washes leave swirls.
Black and dark colors
Dark paint shows every swirl and water spot. A coating makes it easier to wash without adding new marks.
When to skip it
If the car is leaving in a year, or rock chips are the real problem, a coating is not the best use of the money. Film may fit better.
Upkeep: wash, no wax
You still wash a coated car. Hand washing with a pH neutral car soap and clean mitts keeps it looking its best. Rinse off bugs and bird droppings soon instead of letting them bake in the sun.
Skip automatic brush washes. The brushes put swirls back into the paint, coated or not. Touchless washes are the safer choice when you cannot hand wash.
You do not need to wax a coated car. Wax on top only covers the coating’s own slickness and water beading. If the beading fades, a proper wash usually brings it back.
You get care instructions in person and by email, plus sample products to start with: a ceramic spray, water spot remover and soap.
How long it lasts in Georgia sun
Our packages use System X Max G+, rated 10 years, or Phantom, rated 15 years. Real life still depends on how the car is washed and stored. A garaged car that is washed gently gets the most out of a coating, and a car that lives outside and goes through brush washes gets the least.
The yearly inspection that keeps the warranty is also the best time to catch anything early.
Questions people ask
Is ceramic coating worth it?
For most people who keep a car for years and want it glossy and easy to wash, yes. If rock chips are the main worry, paint protection film does more for that. If the car is leaving soon, probably not.
How much does ceramic coating cost?
Our packages run $1,200 to $2,700. New vehicles with a paint enhancement start at $1,200. With a full paint correction, packages start at $1,500. Vehicle size and the paint set the final price. Full breakdown: ceramic coating cost.
Is paint correction included?
Yes. Every package includes the paint prep: a full correction, or a paint enhancement on new vehicles.
How long does ceramic coating last?
Our System X Max G+ coating is rated 10 years and Phantom 15 years. Real life depends on how the car is washed and whether it is garaged.
Can you coat my car at my house?
Yes, if there is a covered spot to work in, like a garage or carport. A coating needs shade and a dry surface while it goes on. Without cover, the job is done at the shop.
What brand of ceramic coating do you use?
System X: Max G+ and Phantom. We are System X Certified Installers.
How long does it take to ceramic coat a car?
We keep the car 2 to 5 days, depending on the package.
How soon can a ceramic coated car get wet?
After 24 hours. The coating reaches full cure in about 2 weeks.
Ceramic coating vs wax: what is the difference?
Wax sits on top of the paint and wears off in weeks to a few months. A coating bonds to the clear coat, is harder and lasts far longer. Wax costs less up front; a coating costs less per year if you keep the car.
Can I wax over ceramic coating?
You do not need to. Wax on top hides the coating’s own slickness and water beading. Ask us before adding any spray or topper.
Do I still have to wash a ceramic coated car?
Yes. A coating makes washing easier and faster. Dirt still lands on the car.
Can you pressure wash a ceramic coated car?
Yes. Keep the tip a safe distance from the paint and do not aim it at panel edges, trim or emblems.
Does ceramic coating protect against rock chips?
No. A coating is too thin to stop a rock. That is what paint protection film is for.
Does ceramic coating prevent water spots?
It helps, because water beads and rolls off. Hard water left to dry in the sun can still spot, so dry the car after washing.
Is ceramic coating good on black cars?
Yes. Dark colors are where the gloss shows most, and easier washing means fewer new swirls. Correction first matters most on black paint.
What is the downside of ceramic coating?
The cost up front, the prep it needs, and the fact that it does not stop chips or replace washing. Bad wash habits can still put swirls in it.
